in Germany, Italy, Spain. Circa 1930-45. The underpinnings of dictatorial behavior were very well hidden by huge displays of nationalism. Was a different time. I know that those who discussed the nature of tyrrany in any truthful sense had their houses raided, books and writings burned, even if you were an established academic.

Thomass Mann
Hermann Hesse come to mind. A whole decade of work was lost by Mann even though he was very politically active as a humanist in Weimar.

Who really knows what to expect. The surface seems so blurry. The truth is partially classified and all of us want so badly to feel like it isnt so bad.

rest assured that the progress of our leaders rests squarely upon what our society will accept or ignore outright.

i think martial law is a great idea. wtf is the problem here?

edit: tho, i especially enjoyed delta's comments. the left and right, so-called, are two sides of the same coin. alex jones might as well be george bush's doppelganger. aside from that, how can anyone, any institution, any organization, any family or dynasty EVER achieve power, when that power is not granted to them by _individuals_? answer? they can't.

got my early voting done today bitches.

when that power is taken from individuals.

more specifically our forefathers granted our power to the government for us, and now we have none of our own.

besides violence of course. but that is pretty ineffective without numbers.

datathinner: that's the spirit!!!

consider me a realist. people say you can't overthrow the govt. i say bullshit - as long as you've got the influence to do it.
it ends as soon as you step out from underneath it. give it no validity, and you automatically, and systematically, dismantle it. individual by individual. we can never forget the importance of the individual, here. or anywhere else, for that matter. one person does make a difference, and if you think otherwise, you forgeit yourself to some seemingly alien cause. good luck with that, have fun at lease, cause i won't be there.

p2: well the first one is debatable, but ill give you the last two.

Vladimir Lenin was a good human being who cared about his people, see example 2 for how it fucked up (Stalin)

he played only a minor role in the actual revolution. he was the editor of a newspaper and later elected onto the central governing committee under Lenin. Lenin did a pretty good job of keeping him in check until he died, and actually chose Trotsky as his successor. this of course, didn't happen.

i could talk for days. but to sum it up - Stalin was an evil bastard who played each side against eachother to rise in the shadows - like a worm.

Lest we forget the idea that the capitalist/consumerist relationship is the major player now, the people have spoken and will get what they deserve.

World War 3 will be over who dies with the most goods, not who frees the masses from oblivious servitude.

the wonderful thing about capitalism is that we will pass the point of no return far before we see any of the symptoms of downfall. Take right now for instance. We invent debt to maintain momentum in the marketplace. Not until we are forced to payup can we see exactly what will happpen. Perhaps a huge nationalist barrage so that our citezenry doesnt turn against our now bankrupt bureocracy.

a bit OT from your comment Roger, but our ideas of capitalism are just as perverted as soviet russias ideas of communism.

but your right, it will be who has the most goods, but not who has the most cash - and who is really in control of the goods, as in direct physical control? the masses, there's just an imaginary buffer in between them and their product called the dollar bill. and when that goes up in smoke ... who knows.

when money is not the major player neither will it be the capitalist's relationship to the people.
